Chicago - the city of tall buildings and reflective art

On Wednesday I awoke and went to meet Laura downtown for lunch. We ate at a little deli, then went to the new Millineum Park to see the "kidney bean". The kidney bean is a new piece of "art" that sits in the middle of the new park. Because of its shape and reflective properties, you can take many many neat pictures with this thing. Anyhow, hours of entertainment. Laura had to go back to school, so I wandered down to the lake front and then to the Sears Tower. And of course, I went to the Sears Tower skydeck and took many pictures. That was high, yes lawd. So that was two straight days in which I went to the top of a tall structure and took pictures - you think I'll be going to the top of the space needle in Seattle?? You think maybe I will??

After Sears Tower I headed to Midway Airport to pick up my roommate Alex who will be joining me for the next week. On the way to Midway, I took a detour down Lower Wacker Drive. Yes, the Lower Wacker Drive from the Blues Brothers. "Yep, it looks like we're definitely on Lower Wacker Drive". I took pictures while driving down this road, I know it wasn't the safest thing to do, but hey, I was Elwood Blues for 10 minutes and had to be a bit reckless.

It was great seeing Alex, and I'm glad he'll be with me for the next few days as I head west. We Left the airport and went back to Laura's, then went downtown for dinner with my friend Beth from State and a couple of her friends. One of my goals while in Chicago was to eat some genuine Chicago-style deep dish pizza. So we went to the original Uno's Pizzaria. I'm telling you, you may order this pizza while you're extremely hungry, and be all brazen like "I can eat a whole pizza!", but you're wrong. Oh so wrong. I hadn't eaten since noon and by the time our pizza came I was starved. And I could only manage to down two slices. Not only that, after two slices I felt positively sick. This pizza is the most filling thing in universe. We ordered two mediums for 6 of us and had nearly an entire pie leftover.

Since it was Dan's birthday, Laura had invited over some folks for cheesecake later that evening. Alex and I joined them, and I must say Laura made some damn good cheesecake. But after cheesecake and that pizza, I don't think I want to see another dairy product any time soon. Word. We also drank some more Wooden Legs, and then we called it a night. Many thanks to Laura and Dan for taking care of us so well during our time in Chicago, yes lawd.
